NOTICE: The information below was correct as of the end of August. Fareham Heathens have now partnered with a new kit supplier and we will all be able to get our kit, properly embroidered with team logo etc. from the same place. Just as importantly, the club also benefits from every purchase made so we will all be supporting the club as well by getting the kit together from one place. Details on the new kit supplier will be posted shortly... please keep an eye out. To train and play Rugby for Fareham Heathens you will need to ensure your child is provided with the appropriate kit to play in. Some are essential, some are optional and some have rules regarding their use you should be aware of. Shirt [required] Goes without saying. Currently Heathens will supply your child with a shirt for matches, but for training he will need one of his own. We recommend a sturdy rugby shirt for the more physical sessions as they can get a little bit of abuse. Shorts [required] You will need to provide your child with a pair of plain black shorts, preferrably rugby shorts as they again last better under the trying conditions of a rugby season. A pair such as the Murryfield from Kooga which you can get from Lovell-rugby, Newitts or RugbyStore is ideal. Socks [required] Black socks with two large red bands on the upper leg. You may have to hunt around for these as lines tend to change from time to time. Currently Morrant has them at a very reasonable price. Boots [required] Rugby boots are a requirement, not football boots. There is a distinct difference in the types of studs used in Rugby boots which means you can't wear moulded or the smaller football studs. It is possible to buy replacement studs for footbal boots so they conform to the rugby requirements, but it would be a better option to buy proper rugby boots from the outset, however as long as the studs conform to the rugby rules any boot is acceptable. GumShield [required] Hope no explanation is needed for this item. Body/Forearm Armour [optional] Some players prefer a little extra padding to protect from heavier knocks, this is entirely at the players discression. Head protection [optional] Again this is entirely at the players own discression, generally tend to use them more than backs. Gloves [optional] There are restrictions on gloves, you are not allowed to wear full fingered gloves, they must be cut-off so the fingers are exposed. Again, the rugby supplies shops listed have an extensive range. All weather Training top and bottoms [optional] Not strictly part of the team kit but Heathens have standardised on the use of the Kooga Vortex training top & pants before. You can get them from Morrant as well as training doesn't get called off for a bit of rain!! |
